Size Matters: How Big Apartment do You Really Need?
You’re about to move into your first north gaia apartment. Congratulations! You’ve managed to save enough money for a down payment and you’re ready to take the next step in your life. But before you start packing, it’s important that you know how big an apartment you really need.
First, you’ll need to calculate how much space you will be using. Do not forget that for a comfortable and functional living, your home should provide ample storage areas like closets and cabinets (for kitchen stuff) and chests of drawers (in the bedroom).
Knowing this number helps with two things: first, it determines where on the real estate market you are going to look at properties; second, it is used as an input into deciding which apartment type works best for your needs. For example, if you think that you only require about 600 sq feet then looking through ads in newspapers or online classifieds becomes pointless since most places have minimum requirement of 1000 square feet plus. Plus some landlords may consider properties under 800 square foot unsuitable because they are less valuable.
For two people, a one bedroom apartment is usually the best bet because it has enough space for you and all your furniture while still being affordable. However, if there are three or four of you in your family then another person can be accommodated by getting them their own room (assuming they are older) but this will make things slightly cramped since no additional rooms are provided. So maybe look into buying an extra-large bed to accommodate everyone? And don’t forget that any roommates must have approved background checks before moving in with you!
