Kristin Quintano (aka:
Q)
What camp do you work for? What type of
camp is it?
Camp Wicosuta: Residential & Private & All
Girls
What is your title/position at camp?
Director of Staffing during the year & during
the summer…TBD. In the past I have
been the Head Counselor of our 14 and 15
year olds.
How long have you been working
for camp, both seasonally and full-time?
I was a camper at Camp Walt Whitman (CWW)
for 7 years, Seasonal staff @ CWW for 3
summers, Seasonal staff @ Wicosuta for
3 summers and I am now in my second year
full time for Wicosuta.
How did you get your start in camping? If
you started off seasonally, how did you
transition into your job as a full-time
camp professional?
I got my start in camping as a camper
really. When I was a CIT it was about more
than returning to be with my friends; I
truly wanted to work with kids. When I
became a staff member I quickly became
a part of the leadership team and found
a passion for training and empowering counselors
to be great at their jobs. I moved from
CWW to Wicosuta when I met Cole Kelly (Wico’s
director at the time) at Tri-State in 2005.
He had a position that had more leadership
and responsibility. While I was at Wico
in the summer I was also completing my
Graduate degree. The summer after my graduation,
Wico was in transition to new directors
(Corey and Justin Dockswell). During that
summer, Corey and Justin offered me a job
working full time with them as the Director
of Communication and Projects training
to be the Director of Staffing.
What is your background in terms of major
in school, degree(s) and school(s) attended,
and if you had another career prior to
camping, what was it?
I graduated from Springfield College in
2004 with my BS in Rehabilitation and Disabilities
Studies. I went on to receive my
MSW from Columbia University in 2006.
What areas do you primarily focus on
in your role (staffing, camper recruiting,
programming, etc.)? Any other skills that
people can feel free to contact you about?
Staffing, camper recruitment, behavior
management, problem solving.
What do you like to do in your free
time?
Spend time with my family and friends,
do Pilates, watch good TV, go to the movies,
read, cook and eat sushi
