EPIC is an organization
started in 2004 through the ACA New York
office (but open to ACA Members of any
section) to provide educational and social
networking opportunities and events for
individuals in the camp industry. There
are no official EPIC membership requirements;
anyone is welcome to join as an attendee,
supporter or volunteer. To date, there
are hundreds of EPICs who have requested
to be on our e-mail list and receive information
about EPIC events.
EPIC Committee
The EPIC Committee is looking to expand
and evolve! The committee is comprised
of enthusiastic men and women who are evolving
as young full-time camp professionals.
As with all committees of ACA-NY, the EPIC
committee serves as volunteers and provides
a wonderful network of likeminded individuals
who work to develop outstanding educational
and social opportunities for the Emerging
Professional in Camping. If you are interested
in serving on the EPIC committee or know
of any young camping professionals who
you feel would be an asset to the group,
please
fill out a nomination form and
return to the ACA NY office at 1375 Broadway
4th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
EPIC
Programs and Opportunities
- Address
the educational and social networking
needs of the “non-established” camp
directors in our industry (i.e. new directors,
assistant/associate directors, full time
employees with other titles, seasonal employees,
and other camp professionals who just entered
or wish to enter the camp industry).
- Provide
programs that are interactive, innovative,
social and germane to where individuals
currently are in their career
- Are
experiential opportunities for EPICs
to learn, network, and give back within
the camp industry.

EPIC Cares Food Drive at Tri State
The
Atlantic City Rescue Mission is a place
of help for the homeless. The Mission’s
dining hall is open 7 days a week, 365
days a year. In one day they serve over
700 meals-sound familiar? The Mission relies
on donations to support their dining hall
and we can help. Please bring any of the
following items with you to this year’s
Tri-State Conference and EPIC will donate
it on your camps behalf: coffee, sugar
(white and brown), powdered pre-sweetened
drink mixes (iced tea, lemonade, fruit
punch), canned tomato products, tea bags,
juice, pancake syrup, assorted cold breakfast
cereals, oatmeal, canned goods, spices,
garlic powder, seasoned salt or black pepper.

EPIC Tri-State Pre-Conference Workshop
The EPIC Tri-State Pre-Conference Workshop
committee is an educational tool intended
to help kick off Tri-State for attendees
the EPIC way. Our goal, as with all EPIC
events, is not only to help educate EPICs
on a given topic but to also allow them to
experience and practice the skills learned
and network with their peers. It is one of
the best ways to kickoff the Tri-State experience.
Previous conference topics have included:
Build a Camp, Influencing Your Camp Culture:
How to Navigate the Good, the Bad, and the
Ugly and Deliver on Your Promises, Behavior
Management Tool Box, and a Program Think
Tank.
EPIC Cares
The goal for EPIC Cares is to offer opportunities
to network and learn from other camp professionals
while giving back to the community through
service projects. Events are held in the
spring and fall of each year. These projects
allow EPICs to socialize and build relationships
with each other while benefiting the communities
around New York City.
EPIC Social Networking
EPIC Social Networking provides EPICs
with the opportunity to meet and interact
with each other in a casual social setting.
Over the past few years, EPIC has hosted
events such as wine and cheese parties,
karaoke, book groups, and evening activity
events during Tri-State to bring together
individuals from the camping industry.
These social networking opportunities are
beneficial to all EPIC's to meet professionals
in camping outside of the traditional conference
sessions.
EPIC Fall Conference
The EPIC Fall Conference is an interactive
and exciting one day educational workshop.
This conference aims to reach a wide range
of EPICs and address issues such as facility
management, budgeting, staffing, marketing,
staff management, and camper management.
Programs are developed to be applicable
to EPICs who have just entered the camp
industry as well as those EPICS who have
been in camping for several years and are
taking on new roles within their organization.
Information at the EPIC Fall Conference
is presented in creative and interactive
ways and is often coupled with opportunities
to network and speak with and learn from
other camp professionals.
